Dr. Underwood was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He earned his
undergraduate BS degree at Long Beach State University and then received his doctorate
degree from UCLA  After graduation, he started his private practice in Fountain Valley,
California. He was appointed to the faculty upon graduation in the department of fixed
prosthodontics until his retirement in 2001.

Dr. Underwood worked with the Newport-Mesa Assistance League Cheri Harris
Dental Center from 1979 to 1999 and served as the Directing Dentist from 1989 onward.

He is a member of the Orange County, California and American Dental Societies
as well as the UCLA faculty emeriti association.

Dr. Underwood currently resides in Huntington Beach with his wife Edria and
Sam, (a chocolate Lab).

Share A Smile was founded by Mike and Kim Robertson to help children of
Southem California who demonstrated financial need. The idea was to screen the
children and select those who were in the greatest need of orthodontic treatment. Mike
and Kim's goal was to make a significant impact on the children's self esteem and possibly
view themselves in a different light, even though life had given them some difficult
obstacles.

After networking with other local charities and children's services organizations,
Share A Smile had established a pipeline for referral. Several orthodontists teamed with
Share A Smile to provide care.

In most every case, the children were exuberant about the possibility of getting a
smile makeover. For some of the children it was more than just a smile. It was a chance
to repair poorly aligned back teeth and jaws so that they could eat properly. One of the
other goals of treatment was early detection of growth and development problems that
could be treated at an early age, thus preventing bigger problems in the future.

Share A Smile fills a void in charitable services that are rarely available. Its goal
is to expand over time and continue to help the children of Southem California.
